WIGRAM “GATE-CRASHER”
AIR TRAINEE’S DECEPTION MAN WITH A RECORD (By Telegraph.—press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Monday Passing himself off as a member of the Air Force, Clarence Reginald Burt, aged 32, gained admittance to Wigram Air Station, but when taken to the guard room his deception was discovered. Burt was charged today with being unlawfully on the station, and it was then revealed that lie had passed himself off as a commissioned Air Force officer to gain admittance to the Union Jack Club. Once before Burt had been found at Wigram in suspicious circumstances and he had been warned off. Last Tuesday Burt knocked on a pilot’s bedroom door and said he had been instructed to report for training. When accommodation was arranged the deception was discovered. Burt had no connection with Wigram but was taking the educational course sponsored by the Air Department. “They are not taking a man with this record?” asked the magistrate, Mr E. C. Levvey, after reading Burt’s list. After warning Burt that he would be sent to gaol if there were any further trouble, the magistrate convicted him and ordered him to come up for sentence in two years if called on.
