GORDGNTON FUNCTIONS
| PRESENTATION EVENING To honour Miss Molly McLeod, whose marriage takes place this week, a social was held in the Gordonton Hall last Friday evening, when there was a large attendance. Mesdames J. Knight and C. Clark were hostesses. A huge bowl of rhododendrons gave a note of colour to the stage, and Iceland poppies were attractively arranged on the supper tables. Miss Billie Carswell rendered a solo, and a short sketch was presented by members of the Women’s Institute. i During the evening Mr W. J. Carsj well on behalf of the residents of j Gordonton, Piako Hoad and Puketaha. presented Miss McLeod with a handsome oak clock, and expressed good wishes for the future. The guest-of-honour and Mrs McLeod were each presented with a lovely bouquet by Peggy Laidlaw and Elaine Harman respectively. On be- . half of Miss McLeod, Mr W. Sexton suitably returned thanks and musical , honours were then accorded them, i Supper was served and dancing conj tinued with Mr J. Battersby at the ! piano. Mr H. Lister was master of j ceremonies. PRE-WEDDING PARTY j Mrs W. J. Carswell, assisted by her daughter, Billie, was hostess at a | very happy party held at her home i recently, in honour of Miss Molly 1 McLeod. Games and dancing made i the evening pass pleasantly, although some preferred to patronise the card tables. The presentation of a set of kitchen canisters was made to the guest-of-honour, who expressed her thanks and appreciation.
