TE RAPA GALLOPS
OLYMPUS HITS OUT YOUNG PADDON—LORNACRE TRIALS FOR PAEROA (By v Martian.”) The going on the course proper, 60ft. out from the rails, was in splendid order for galloping at Te Rapa this morning when the semi-final trials for the Ohinemuri meeting ever the week-end took place under pleasant conditions. Several useful efforts were recorded, the best of the morning being efforts over sprint distances by Laughing Fox and Olympus, Young Paddon and Lornacre and | Acreman. j Laughing Fox (Bartles) and Olymi pus (Ramsay) were associated over five furlongs, running to the halfmile in 53 l-ss, and traversing he full distance in 1.7 1-5. It was a I useful effort on the part of both ! horses, who are to contest engageI ments at the Paeroa gathering. Laughing Fox is to open his three-year-old career in the Maiden Handi- ! cap on Saturday and it will be inter- | esting to note how he shapes. Olyrn- | pus, improved by his race at Avondale, is not without prospects in the ■ open sprint. Beau Repaire and Marshall Hall, who have taken no harm from Avondale exertions, were restricted to strong pace work over a roundA Solid Six Furlongs Young Paddon (Mclnally) was a j length in front of Lornacre (Ozanne) | over the deciding stages of six fur- | longs in 1.21 3-5. They ran their initial three furlongs in 38£s, the i half-mile in 53 4-5 s and five furlongs jin 1.7 1-5. While Young Paddon galloped with customary brilliance ; Lornacre was not disgraced as he is ■ not a good track worker, and on the way he shaped this morning he should , not be long in reaching his best. Cape Egmont (Gollop) and Forest Bridge (Long) ran five furlongs in
1.11 4-5, their first half-mile in 56$s. Raceline (Gollop), under a strong hold in the early stages, was finishing on to complete a round in 2.14. He looks in good order for racing at Paeroa, where on the first day he is to contest the Poland Cup. Gay Rosette (Long), Calorie (Ensor) and Glenbevan (Mclnally) were practically on terms at the completion of half-a-mile in 53 2-ss. They ran their first three furlongs in 38s and all executed their work pleasingly. Mio Lume (Hain) traversed a round in 2.10 4-5, his first half-mile in 56 4-ss. Calshot, Son of the Soil and Etcetera ' negotiated six furlongs in 1.245. Smart Three Furlongs A smart effort over three furlongs was credited to Foxsen and Acreman (McKenzie), who clocked 37 4-5 s for the distance. Sunny Downs (Jones), Cappy (Brown), Gael (Howard), Tooley Street (McGregor), and Joy Vaals (Wnider) ran to the seven furlong peg in 1.36. Marie’s Choice (Gollop) ran five furlongs in 1.3 J.. Midland (Curran) gave a dashing j exhibition over five flights of hurdles. He is an acceptor for the Kopuarahi ; Hurdles on the first day at Paeroa and j he appeals as being hard to beat, j The schooling of Black Musk j (Muir) over the same fences was not 1 as impressive, but although he got in close to several fences he cleared j them safely.
