FAMED VIOLINIST

YEHUDI MENUHIN RETURNING MONTH IN AUSTRALIA (By Telegraph.—Press Association) AUCKLAND, Monday However great one’s musical ability may be, it is essential that one should live in a country where classical music is produced to absorb the atmosphere that may convert talent into genius. That is the opinion of Yehudi Menuhin, worldfamed violi-nist, who is a through passenger by the Monterey from Sydney to the United States. Mr Menuhin said America was fortunate because so many great artists of the world were seeking sanctuary there. Their influence should, make* a mark on the musical development of America. The peoples of New Zealand and Australia did not lag behind America in most things, but as far as music was concerned they were at a disadvantage unless they could spend some time in the countries where music was produced. He and his wife spent a delightful month s holiday with his brother-in-law in the country, said Mr Menuhin, and carried away pleasant memories of Australia. They also gave eleven concert recitals in Australia.
