JAPANESE ATTACK OVER IN DO-CHINA BORDER HANOI, Sept. 22 Tho Japanese have crossed the border, attacking Dongdang, northeast of the frontier of Indo-Chma. The French fully resisted tho attacks, which were suspended at midnight. However, French officials expect that the Japanese will resume the attacks at dawn. The Japanese assaulted Dondang contrary to the Franco-Japanese agreement, which gave the Japanese certain military facilities, including airfields, Dondang is about 100 miles northeast of Hanoi. CAMP ARRANGEMENTS Among the camp arrangements for territorials who were to have mobilised at Waiouru on October 1 arc the following: Rotorua racecourse, Ist Field Regiment, N.Z. Artillery; Cambridge Racecourse, Ist Battalion, Waikato Regiment; Te Aroha Racecourse, Ist Battalion, Hauraki Regiment, The mobilisation date is tho same. . .. XIDNAPPED CHILD MAN IN CUSTODY RIVERPINE (California), Sept. 22 A storekeeper, Mr Frank Brcitenbach, said the police took into custody a man and a child. The latter was later identified as the kidnapped Mark de Tristan. Three Riverpino residents seised the man and tho child in Jhe Sierra foothills, six miles from Riverpine, binding the kidnapper until the polio* arrived. "IRON-LUNG" ROMANCE BIRTH OF DAUGHTER CHICAGO, Sept. 22 Mrs Snite, wife of Mr H. Snite, who has been in an "iron-lung” for some years, has given birth to a daughter. Both aro well. LAW-BANKS GOLF TOURNEY The annual golf tournament of the membe-8 of the law and banking professions was held at St, Andrews to-day. Results:— Morning Bogey.—A grade: R. R. Mentiplay, 2 up, won the count back from W. A. Newton who was also 2 up. J. M. Horton, all square, C. B. Wake and R. Chalmers, one down, ware the best of the remaining cards. B grade: A. L. Tompkins, 2 up, won on the count back from H. T. Gillies, •It* 2 up, with A. E. McDonald 1 up, and A. Small all square.
