HOLLYWOOD HELPS CHILDREN £6OOO GUARANTEE BY ACTOR (Times Air Mail Service) LONDON, July 9 Mr Douglas Fairbanks, Junr., has made it possible for 60 children—orphans o£ British actors— to seek
safety in Hollywood, says the Evening standard. The children are now living at the Actors’ Orphanage at Chertsey. It was suggested by two members of the committee, Miss Clemence Dane and Mr Leslie Henson, That Dame May Whitty, the British actress who now lives in Hollywood, might be asked to raise a fund among British actors there in order to evacuate the children to Hollywood. It was necessary at once to guarantee that the children would not become a burden on public funds. This was done by Mr Fairbanks, who, I understand, has guaranteed £6ooo— for each child—to comply with the regulations. A committee has been formed in Hollywood to look after the children when they arrive. They will go as soon as shipping accommodation is available.
