FRENCH WARSHIPS
USE AGAINST BRITAIN LOYALTY TO FORMER ENEMIES AGREEMENT WITH JAPAN (United Tress Asn.— Elec. Tel. Copyright) VICHY. Sept. 20 The French Foreign Minister, M. Baudouip, said Britain was notified before the six French warships left the Mediterranean for Dakar. The warships passed Gibraltar without a single gun firing on them, and not the slightest attempt was made to impede their passage. The mission of the warships was to support the preservation of the French Empire against the British effort to provoke dissidence, M. Baudouin added. France would employ all the force permissible under the armistice to assure the integrity of the Colonial Empire against provocations. France would reach a military, political and economic agreement with Japan, preserving French sovereignty. but giving Japan privileges. The Minister added that France owed loyalty to her former enemies, besides scrupulous execution of the armistice, which was drafted honourably. VICHY. Sept. 20 The French warships reaching Dakar are not bound Indo-China but will remain at D.^ar.
