NEW MACHINE-GUN

ADOPTED BY BRITISH ARMY IMPROVEMENT ON BREN (United Press Asn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, Sept. 30 The Besa, a new type of machinegun notable for its high firing rate, has been adopted for the British Army. Based on the Bren gun, it can be mounted in tanks or used on the ground. Special factories have been built to manufacture the Besa, which is made in two calibres—one of .312in., firing 3000 rounds in half an hour without change of barrel, and 7000 in a half-hour using two barrels, and the other of .591 in., firing 800 rounds within eight to ten minutes when two barrels are used.
