ORPHANAGE APPEAL
. PROVINCIAL SCHEME UNITED EFFORT BEING MADE A united effort for funds on behalf of all the orphanages in the Auckland Province will be launched next week with the intention of raising £IO,OOO. In past years the orphanages of the various religious organisations conducted individual appeals, but in view of the changed circumstances the appeal this year will be a combined effort. A combined orphanage committee, embracing all the orphanages in the area, has been constituted and throughout the whole province a street appeal will be made next Friday. The Hamilton orphanage at “ The Nest,” conducted by the Salvation Army, in the past has bee,-» permitted to conduct street collections in Hamilton on four days just before Christmas, but this year the Salvation Army has foregone this privileg*.* to join the combined scheme. There ore more/ than 3000 children orphanages in the Auckland Province.
