MILK ZONING

HAMILTON SCHEME ■nr r APPROVAL OF VENDORS The scheme for the zoning of the daily milk supply in Hamilton has been completed and all vendors have copies of their respective zones. The scheme, which was worked out by the Hamilton Milk Vendors’ Association will be submitted to Wellington for approval, and it is hoped that it will come into operation on October 1. The town has been divided into 21 zones and each vendor allotted a zone nearest to his base, with a supply equal to his present output. The scheme has worked out very satisfactorily and the consumers who will have to change their milkmen are not numerous. It is confidently expected that each milk vendor will cut his petrol consumption by about 40 per cent. The vendors will have a week to accustom themselves to their new districts, ana it is expected that they will visit all the new houses in their zones before the scheme actually comes into operation. Dealing with Complaints Consumers who have complaints to make regarding their new supply will have their interests safeguarded by the appointment of two arbiters, Mr R. McCaw, representing the Hamilton Borough Council, and Mr C. W. Pepperell, representing the : Hamilton Chamber of Commerce. Any complaint to the Milk Vendors’ Association that cannot be settled will be investigated by the arbiters. Victoria Street is an open zone, with the seven vendors at present operating maintaining their customers. No new vendor will be allowed to enter this street. The Hayes Paddock area will be worked by three vendors who have zones adjoining, but when the building scheme is completed the area will i be a zone on its own. The detailed chart of the rounds of the various milkmen in the town discloses that over 1600 gallons of milk each day is distributed in the town. •
