SECOND DAY
MARKET FOR BULLS KEEN PRICES YESTERDAY COMBINED BREEDERS* FAIR JERSEYS MAKE TO 62 GNS Keen prices were again paid for Jersey bulls when the second day’s auction of the annual bull fair of the Waikato Combined Breeders’ Association was held in the Claudelands selling pavilion yesterday. Some 150 bulls were offered, star lots making from 50 to 62 gns. other attractive entries from 35 to 45 gns, and less promising sorts from 15 to 25 gns. The Jersey bulls offered yesterday were principally from dams that were not so well supported by butterfat records as the dams of the bulls offered on the first day, but, nevertheless, many of yesterday’s entries were from high producers. Bidding slackened off during the late afternoon sales but values remained very keen for any quality lots. Prior to the auction all bulls were examined by the inspection committee, consisting of Messrs T. G. Whev/ell (Friesian breeders), W. C. Wallace (Ayrshire breeders), F. S. Veale (Jersey breeders), A. W. Green (Milking Shorthorn breeders), D. D. Wilson (Jersey type judge). The sale was conducted by the Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company, the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., Messrs Dalgety and Company, and Messrs G. W. Vercoe and Company. Messrs F. M. Harkness, t. B. Fearon, W. Paterson and C. Haverbier were in the rostrum.
