TROTTING TOPICS
At the annual meeting of delegates to the New Zealand Trotting Conference a suggestion was made that the period between the dates ol' nomination and meetings should be reduced as much as possible. Few clubs have taken any notice of the recommendation, but an exception is provided by the New Brighton Club, which has allowed only 10 days lor owners to make tlieir decisions. Nominations will be taken on October 2, and acceptances on October 8, while the meeting will be held on October 12. A Busy Season Mongolian, xvbo is engaged at Hutt Park tomorrow, had a fairly busy time last year, contesting 26 races. He began the season with a surprise win in the Hutt Park Trial Handicap. 111 October lie scored two wins at Auckland, and followed up with a win at Manawatu and another at Taranaki.- In the Wannate Plains Handicap he separated Tsana and Palomar, defeating the latter from the same mark, 4.33. At Addington last month Mongolian ran second to Roan Duke in the Heathcote Handicap, recording 4.24 1-5 from 4.33. Parauri’3 Credentials Parauri, an acceptor for the Wiifurd Memorial at Wellington tomorrow, is a six-year -old and so should have his best days in front of him. Last season Parauri fared the starter on 12 occasions, for two first and two seconds. At Auckland in December Parauri ran second to Horsepower, who was conceding 24 yards, his time being 2.45 4-5. He won the Alexandra Park Handicap In February, going 4.31. At Auckland in April he was second to Molly Direct. In tlie Kergusson Handicap, the latter being in receipt of 1 2 yards. Hi* last success was registered here in May, when he beat Fortex by three-quarters of a length, with Molly Direct a length away, third. Horsepower Horsepower is generally regarded as a stayer, but strangely enough, four of the five races he won last year were or only lu furlongs, while the other was of 12 furlong*. 111 addition to his five wins, Horsepower was placed on six other occasions. His best times were: —li miles, 2.41 3-5; li miles, 3.14 3-5; 2 miles, 4.21 4-5. Horsepower raced three times at Addington in August, being placed fourth in two or them. Both were run over two miles. Horsepower Is now only six years or age, so he should be capable or Improving upon anything he has already accomplished. Ferry Post Ferry Post raced only once last season, but lie has already made It abundantly clear that his long absence rrom the racing track has not impaired either his speed or his stamina. Ferry Post raced lour times at Addington last month, running third in the Dash Handicap after losing a tremendous amount of ground. On Thursday at New Brighton lie also gave an astonishing display of speed and stamina in winning the Harper Handicap after losing a lot of ground in the middle stages. He lias been penalised 24 yards, but nevertheless. i* sure to be well supported in the Wilforcl Memorial at Hutt Park tomorrow, lie should soon reach New Zealand Cup class Novices at Hutt Park U. H.
