NEW ZEALAND AIRMEN VERY ARDUOUS MISSIONS GREAT BRAVERY SHOWN (United Press Asn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, Sept. 18 The courage and skill which won Distinguished Flying Crosses for New Zealand airmen is shown in further details regarding the exploits of Acting-Flight-Lieutenant F. E. Eustace, of Nelson; and Acting-Squadron-Leader A. A. Breckon, of Auckland. The citation covering the award to Flight-Lieutenant Eustace states: “Since March 1, as an aeroplane captain. he has carried out 26 operational flights over enemy territory with conspicuous success and gallantry. He has undertaken missions of a most arduous nature, necessitating a sea crossing of more than 800 miles “He has consistently set an excellent example of resourcefulness and determination in pressing home attacks with the utmost coolness in the face of intense enemy anti-aircraft fire. He participated in a level bombing attack on two cruisers at Kristiansand, Norway, on April 12.”

Additional information concerning the achievements of Acting-Squad-ron-Leader Breckon shows that, within three days of his 2000 miles flight from Scotland to Narvik and back, he made a reconnaissance flight to Trondheim lasting nine and a-half hours. The citation describes him as a most determined leader.
