MILITARY MEDAL
HOME GUARDSMAN HONOURED WORKED WHILE BOMBS FELL (United Press Asn.— Elec. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, Sept. 17 The first award of a military decoration to a member of the Home Guard is announced in the London Gazette. Volunteer Jones has received the Military Medal for an act of bravery officially described in these words: —■ “ Volunteer Jones, a member of a guard posted rn defence of a vital point, was on guard when the post was bombed. One man was killed and one seriously wounded. Volunteer Jones, who was himself in a place of safety, on hearing the groans of the wounded man, at once left the shelter and carried him on his back to a place of safety. “ During this time bombs, debris and large pieces of steel work and heavy glass were still falling. Volunteer Jones carried out his task with complete disregard of his own safety.”
