Jones, interviewed today, said a proposal that staff talks should be held between the Chiefs of New Zealand Naval, General and Air Staffs and the Chiefs of the respective Australian Staffs was approved recently by the Government and agreed to by the Commonwealth Government. “The purpose of these talks,” said Mr Jones, “is to allow informal, but full discussions on all matters of defence. Parry, Chief of the Naval Staff, took the opportunity when in Australia recently, of discussing with, the Chief of the Commonwealth Naval Staff

all matters of common concern regarding naval defence.

“The Government attaches the greatest importance to the maintenance of full and effective liaison between the Chiefs of Staff of the two countries,” concluded Mr Jones.
