PHILATELIC ACTIVITY
WAIKATO SOCIETY MEETS Last night’s informal meeting of the Waikato Philatelic Society was attended by 28 members, Mr M. C. Gudex presiding. There was no set programme but during the evening Mr C. R. Coates gave a competition, the winners being Messrs D. Edsall, M. C. Gudex and A. Meyer. Mr Cooke, by request, gave an exhibition of mounting and arranging stamps on quadrille ruled sheets. Most of the evening was taken up in studying the various collections and duplicates brought by members and many stamps changed hands. Two members were proposed for election on October 2. when Air Cooke will given an address on the Penny Black, the first postage stamp. The society will have been in existence 12 months in October, and the arrangements to hold a birthday meeting during that month were carried forward another step, the committee reporting upon the hire of a hall for the purpose of holding a social evening.
