BRIGHTER TONE

HIGHER SHEEP RATES VALUES AT FRANKTON FIRMER FOR COW BEEF Price levels were higher In practically all .sections of the Frankton stock sale yesterday. Cow beef was slightly dearer, while an Improvement in quotations was also recorded in the fat sheep and pig departments. The supply of ox beef was smaller and here values were very firm. Extra heavy sorts were traded from £l3 to £l4 5s a head ag-alnst £l2 10s to £l3 15s last week, while heavy prime descriptiuns changed hands from £ll 15s to £l2 19s, and light to medium from £lO 8s to £ll. The tone of the market was brighter than last week although there was hardly any quotable advance in prices. Choice quality sorts comprised a good proportion of the cow and heifer beef seetitSh where an average supply was forward. The improvement in this section amounted to approximately 10s a head. Extra heavy prime cattle were quoted from £lO to £ll 10« In comparison with £9 lus to £ll 3s at last week’s sale. Yesterday’s top money was realised for a pen of six. Heavy prime were traded from £8 12s to £9 15s, and prime from £7 15s to £8 7s fid. Calves and boner cattle again sold keenly. Sheep Sell Well Extra buyers in the fat sheep section made a difference to the market In favour or vendors. Wethers were up by at least is fid to 2s a head, while ewes showed an advance of often just over 2s. Shorn entries appeared to be selling better in comparison with the woolly descriptions. Best woolly wethers were quoted rrom 35s fid to 38s, as compared with 35s fid to 37s last week. Few choice ew'es were on orrer, good rat sorts realising rrom 24s to 27s with a Tew* odd heavy choice sheep making to as much as 3 ss. Choice shorn wethers sold particularly well from 31s Gd to 33s fid. The entry, which was shorter than last week, comprised the largest proportion of shorn sheen seen at the yards this season. The inquiry was particularly active for fat pigs, porkers showing a rise of at least. 2s a head and baconers being often better by is a head. Store pigs were again dear, usually at last week’s rates.
