WOMEN’S DIVISION

HAMILTON BRANCH The monthly meeting of the Hamilton branch of the W.D.F.U., was recently held in the Young Men’s Christian Association room, when Mrs Clements presided over an excellent attendance of members. Following the welcome to visitors and new members the president read an urgent message from the Domi- I nion president regarding donations from members for a fighter plane. A collection was taken in the room, the amount being £l2 12s 3d, and the meeting decided to make the balance to £ls from special branch funds. A further appeal was made for the leper children and £3 Is 3d was collected. The following reports were given: —Mrs Windsor (house-keeping); Mrs Vercoe (hospital visiting); Mrs W. Godfrey (National Council of Women). Eleven balaclavas and five scarves were handed in by members of the patriotic committee, and fourteen jars of jam and a bundle of magazines were given to the hospital. Mrs Cox, of Te Kowhai, gave a most interesting floral demonstration and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. TE PUNINGA BRANCH The monthly meeting of the Te Puninga branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held in the local hall recently when the president, Mrs 11. Tappin, presided over a large attendance of members an dfriends. The was decided to hold the annual ball as usual. Mrs R. Bell gave a demonstration on making doormats from wire netting and strips of rubber tubing. This proved to' be of great interest and a very useful household article resulted. The competitions resulted as follows:—Bert shoulder spray, Mrs H. Tappin; home-made soap, Mrs R. Schwass; best bloom, Mrs A. Cates and Mrs L. Paterson (equal) 1, Mrs Hines 2, wandering shilling, Mrs I. Watt; hostesses’ cometition, Mrs R. Kearney and Mrs W. Lamb. The produce stall with Mrs Wilson in charge was well patronised. The meeting closed with afternoon j tea served by the hostesses, Mesi dames R. Beil and L. Billman.
