LOWER BANK RATES £ PER CENT ON SHORT-TERM LONGER PERIODS UNCHANGED Uiy Telegrapn.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Tuesday The Associated Banks announce that the rates of interest payable on fixed deposits received or renewed on and after September 18, 1940, will be as follows:—Three months and under six months, £ per cent; six months and under 12 months, 14 per cent; 12 months and under 24 months, 2\ per cent; 24 months, per cent. The 12 months’ and 24 months’ rates are unchanged, a reduction being made in three months’ and six months’ rates, short-term money being unemployable by the banks at the present time. Present rates, which have operated since November, 1934. are:—Three to six months, 1£ per cent per annum; jix to 12 months. 15 per cent; 12 months to 24 months, 2\ per cent; 24 mouills to 36 months, 2£ per cent.
