ALLIED SHIPPING LOSSES 54,300 TONS IN WEEK (United Press Asn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, Sept. 17 Merchant shipping losses in the week ended September 8 consisted of 16 British, Allied and neutral vessels of a total tonnage of 54,300. Ten British vessels of 28,000 tons were lost, four Allied of 18,500 tons, and two neutral ships of 7800 tons. The Admiralty states that these figures do not included ships which may have been sunk by enemy air attacks on September 7, 8 and 9, reports not having been completed. Total losses for the week are a little more than the average for the 52 weeks, but British losses are below the average. j The Germans claim that merchant j shipping sunk between midnight on j September 1 and midnight on September 8 total 188,500 tons. An Admiralty casualty list contains the names of 804 men from various war hazards not connected with a j a particular operation or ship. Thirty-one officers and 191 ratings have been killed, 36 officers and 219 ratings are missing, 30 officers and 269 ratings have been wounded, and j six officers have been taken prisoner.
