Copyright) (Received Sept. 18, 3.15 p.m.) CAIRO, Sept. 17 It is officially stated that Italian motorised columns have occupied Sidi Barrani and pushed out the covering forces southward *nd westward. SUCCESSFUL BRITISH RAIDS MANY DIRECT HITS MADE FIRES AND EXPLOSIONS (Official Wireless) (Received Sept. 18, 3.15 p.m.) RUGBY, Sept. 17 A Royal Air Force communique issued at Cairp, states: A series of bombing raids was made on Monday night on enemy motor transports and concentrations east of Bugbug. Many direct hits were observed, resulting in numerous fires and explosions. There was a successful attack on Asmara Aerodrome, a direct hit being scored on a hangar. A formation of enemy bombers approached Malta on Monday, but turned away without dropping bombs on the appearance of our lighters. From all operations the British aircraft returned safely.
