MAORI HOSTEL FUND

(To the Editor) Sir, —May I commend Mr R. G. Young on the stand he took recently at the Waikato County Council meeting towards the matter of the Maori hostel fund. I think it is high time councils gave up making these grants out of ratepayers’ funds, or rather mostly out of overdraft accounts—an added burden on the ratepayers. Granted the hostel is a very worthy cause and deserves public support, what about the business people moving in the matter? I have pleasure in enclosing one pound towards the necessary hundred.—l am, etc., COUNTY RATEPAYER. Hamilton, September 16.
