THEFT OF £465
STATE DEPARTMENT EMPLOYEE ADMITTED TO PROBATION (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Tuesday Mr Justice Johnston in the Supreme Court admitted Abel Kerr Edie to two years’ probation on a charge of stealing £465 19s as an employee of the Internal Marketing Department. The main reasons for probation, the judge said, were Edie’s war service, nis connection with the Returned Soldiers’ Association, and the realisation the Court had that the association would stand by him. Colonel Cowles, president of the Wellington Returned Soldiers’ Association, had said Edie was a most earnest worker and was very highly thought of by the Kariori Auxiliaiy.
