AVONDALE SUCCESSES

FIVE RACES WON MARSHALL HALL IN SPRINT MISS RAFFLES AND DON QUEX Waikato-trained horses met with signal success at Avondale on Saturday when they accounted for no fewer than five of the eight events on the card. Of those from Te Rapa, Midland won the opening event, the Kingsland Hurdles, Aguila won the Trial Plate at odds of well over a quarter of a century, and Marshall Hall scored narrowly in the open sprint. Miss Baffles, trained at Te Awamutu, and owned in Hamilton, won the Avondale Stakes and Beau Leon, also from Te Awamutu, accounted for the Champion Plate. Beau Repaire was narrowly beaten by Clinch in the Avondale Cup, the Julian stable being deprived of the “double” by the narrow margin of half a head. The weather was fine and there was an exceptionally large attendance, many being shut out from the totalisator on every race.
