McNaughton, addressing troops at a southern garrison, said: “ We are building a new Canadian corps to carry the war into enemy territory. A division will consist of 14,000 officers and men, compared with its 1918 predecessors of 21,000, but will be immensely harder hitting and speedier. “ The average pace of a division will be increased from 2£ an hour to 121 miles and it will be able to move over 100 instead of 10 miles in a day. The force will also include unit.- from other parts of the Empire.”
