SUBVERSIVE PAMPHLET DESCRIBED AS SCURRILOUS (By Telfr-")!) A«som»loni WELLINGTON, Monday Possession of pamphlets described by the Magistrate, Mr J. L. Stout, as being of a scurrilous nature, resulted in a reserved judgment con voting James Kelman, aged 37, hairdi* er, who was charged last Thursday with having in his possession 127 copies of a pamphlet entitled “murder,” with a view to facilitating the publication of a subversive statement. A sentence was imposed of twelve months’ imprisonment with hard labour. The magistrate said he did not think it could seriously be contended that the pamphlet did not contain a subversive statement. Kelman had given no evidence to explain his possession of them, and the magis-t-ate thought it could properly be inferred that the only reason for his possession was to facilitate publication.
