Children’s Verse

“THE SNOW-DROP”

One morn in early springtime, When going for a walk, I met a dainty maiden, And stopped to have a talk. Her pretty head hung shyly, And hid her modest face; She wore a dainty bonnet Of white, with green tipped lace. I tilted up her bonnet, Her pretty face to see, And lo! a little Snowdrop Was smiling up at me. % ’ SPRING CAME DANCING Spring came dancing down the silver street of day, Spring came dancing for she couldn’t keep away; And all around the dusty town her magic fingers strayed, Leaving joy in every heart, sunshine in the shade. Spring came dancing . . . and I heard her mellow call Echoing and echoing around my office wall— Making magic melody, singing silver songs, Leaving gladness in my heart, though the day was long.

Spring came dancing—and although she didn’t tell She left a secret in my heart, for you to share as well. She said, “ As long as joy is yours, and beauty you can see I’ll come again and always bring a greater gift for thee.
