GOVERNMENT’S POLICY DISCUSSION AT TE- AROTIA (Special to Times) TE AROMA, Friday A meeting convened by the Te Aroha branch of the Farmers’ Union was held last night to discuss the possibilities or the casual farm labour scheme. The Mayor, Mr R. Coulter, presided and representatives of the Plako County Council and the Te A roll a Borough Council attended. The. placement officer from I’aeroa explained the Government’s policy of huts and men. The Government lias placed at his disposal every man in the district who was on Public Works Scheme No. 13 and in the Forestry Department. If Hie men were adapted l'or farm work, they would have to go on the farms provided accommodation were made available. LMr Palliser said that the Government had a scheme in operation in the Iluntly district that was working very satisfactorily, lints, for which a charge of 55 a week was made, had been built and were occupied at present by married men. A number or farmers had given a guarantee to keep these men in continuous work. It was decided to ask tho Government to make a number or these huts available to the farmers of the Te Aroha district as soon as possible. The general opinion or were wauled At uuce.
