OPEN BREACHES
ILLEGAL PETROL SALES (By Telegraph.— press Association) AUCKLAND, Friday Fines amounting to £6O were imposed by Mr F. H. Levien, S.M., in the Police Court on Frank Stanley Thompson, proprietor of a service station in Khyber Pass, for two breaches of the oil fuel regulations. Thompson pleaded guilty. The police stated that between May and August there were shortages of 1100 gallons compared with the coupons and licenses in Thompson's possession. He had reported to detectives that petrol had been stolen, but after inquiries had been made he said it had probably been sold. Defending counsel said Thompson had been muddled in figures and now employed an accountant. The magistrate said there could be no possible excuse. Thompson appeared to have been “making a welter of it." Defendant was fined £35 on one charge and £25 on the other.
