DIRECT SHIPMENT
JUTE GOODS FOR DOMINION ARRANGEMENT WITH BRITAIN (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Friday According to a statement by the Minister of Supply, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, shipping arrangements { have been made with the United Kingdom Government to supply New [ Zealand with jute and hessian goods required for both primary and secondary production within the Dominion. A vessel is scheduled to arrive in New Zealand prior to the wheat harvest. The Minister draws the attention of importers of jute goods to the fact that there is virtually no possibility of the usual March-April steamer being available for direct shipment to New Zealand in 1941. As a result of negotiations with Britain it has been agreed to send direct shipments from Calcutta, sufficient to supply New Zealand’s annual requirements. Vessels will, it is expected, leave about the middle and of next year. The Minister also urges manufacturers and others to utilise secondhand sacks to the greatest degree possible.
