BUILDINGS EVACUATED NEW ZEALAND HOUSE ST. PAUL’S IN DANGER (United Press Asn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received Sept. 13, 11.45 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 12 New Zealand House is one of a number of important buildings evacuated owing to the discovery of unexploded bombs in their vicinity. A delayed-action bomb lies outside St. Paul’s Cathedral. The area has been cleared. A bomb in the Strand, in the vicinity of New Zealand House, was of large calibre. It exploded at 7.35 p.m. The premises damaged in the raids of the past few days include Madame Tussaud’s Waxworks and the Daily Herald and Evening Standard offices. Damage to Waxworks Madame Tussaud’s building, which was damaged in the air raid, includes waxworks, a cinema and a restaurant. The majority of the wax models were not damaged. General’s Plane Hit The Rome radio stated that one of the German Generals directing the offensive against Britain participated in yesterday’s raids over London. His plane was hit but safely landed in France.

FEROCIOUS ATTACKS

RAIDERS DESTROYED 150 ON WAY TO LONDON NEW ZEALANDERS’ SUCCESS (Omcial Wireless) (Received Sept. 13, 11 a.m.) RUGBY, Sept. 12 The Air Ministry stated that New Zealand pilots participated when two squadrons of Hurricanes yesterday ferociously attacked a formation of 150 bombers bound for London, escorted by fighters. The squadrons sent down 18 raiders, and probably others.

POOLING FORCES

IN EVENT OF ATTACK CANADA AND UNITED STATES (United Press Asn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, Sept. 12 Canada and the United States have made plans for pooling their forces in the event of attack. This announcement was made by Mr F. H. LaGuardia at the close of the meeting of the United States-Canadian Defence Board in Washington yesterday. Plans were also discussed for making the best use of naval and air bases. Mr LaGuardia said there was no question of each country acquiring land for bases in one country or the other.

ASSISTANCE TO POLICE

IN TIME OF EMERGENCY AUSTRALIAN HOME GUARD (United Press Asn.—Elec. Tel. Copyrignt) (Received Sept. 13, 11 a.m.) CANBERRA, Sept. 13 A conference of police commissioners and officials yesterday drew up a plan for the creation of a Home Guard, who will be required to assist the police in time of emergency, also to deal with subversive influences in the Commonwealth. It will recommend the Federal Government to adopt it.
