TOWN BOARD MEETING RATES CONFIRMED (Special to Times.) CAMBRIDGE, Thursday. Rates as agreed upon in August were conilrmed at a meeting of the Learning ton Town Board on Wednesday night. For the year ended March 31, 1941, the general rate will he l 7-8 d In the £. and the special rate 7-lGd in the £ on capital value. The water charge is £1 14s Cd for each connection. The Social Security Department advised that the hoard would he allowed one man for relief labour Tor 10 weeks, for which the department would pay a subsidy of £3 a week. The chairman stated that a man had been engaged lor re-planting trees In the hoard’s plantation. The chairman reported that he and Mr F. L. St. John and the clerk, Mr R. S. Ilanna, had attended a meeting In Hamilton In connection with the formation or the Home Guard. It was stated that in the meantime nothing further could be done, but Leamington would be required to Torm its committee when the main organisation was advanced. The board decided to cut fire-breaks round and through the pine plantations in the area. It was stated that a small scrub fire had nearly reached the river-bank plantation this week. Postal Box Clearance The postmaster, Mr C. B. Me Natty, wrote asking that one of the five postal receiving boxes In Leamington be dispensed with, and another removed to a more suitable locality. It was stated that the change was desired as a war measure to economise on man-power. A count or all correspondence cleared from the present five boxes was taken recently over a full working week. From S 3 clearances made, only So letters were taken, an average of one earh clearance. The board decided to remove the box from the factory corner to in front or the school, and to dispense with the box at the corner of Lamb and Shakespeare Streets. Feeling reference to the death of the late Mr C. Jarrett was made. The chairman -stated that for many years Mr Jarrett had taken an active interest in the affair? of the district, being a former member or the Town Hoard and its second chairman. It was deckled to send a letter or sympathy to Mrs F. Mack, the eldest merit ber or Mr Jarrett’s family. Domain Board Meets At a meeting of tlie Domain Hoard, which followed, tenders were opened for the rental or Section 7 0 at the end or Shakespeare Street. The tender or Mrs F.
