News of Maori Troops
The Chaplain-General to the New Zealand Forces, Bishop Gerrard, refers in a letter to the Bishop of Aotearoa. the Rt. Rev. Tr . A. Bennett, to the splendid impression the Maori Battalion has made in England. Up to August 8. when the last letter was written, there had been no casualties of any sort among the Maoris and there had been no sickness of any consequence since they left New Zealand. It had been hard to become accustomed to the strict army rations in England after the abundance of food in New Zealand and on board ship, but the men were now used to it and found that they had enough food to keep them fit.
