Sink or Swim With Britain As a result of the war, many men and women, stripped of wealth, possessions, and ail else, realised the worth of each other as never before and had formed a standard wherein '' l ° essential and simple things of life were most valued and their main objective was to save lives and maintain the freedom of England, said Miss Nellie Scanlan, the New Zealand writer, when addressing the National Club in Wellington. Miss Scanlan declared that few New Zealand people realised the seriousness of the situation, and so long as the trouble remained on the other side of the world and did not disrupt their own lives, New Zealanders were apathetic. ■' But,” she said, “ we sink or swim with Britain.”
