CHILD’S DEATH
MAORI AT TAUWHARE ADVICE TO FATHER “It was unfortunate that the father could not get into touch with the district nurse as soon as the child became ill,” said the coroner, Mr F. W. Platts, yesterday when an inquest was he’d into the death of a six-months-old Maori child, Parehuia Rakatau Maaka, who died at Tauwhare on August 20. “I will tell you for your own guidance,” said the coroner when addressing Rakatau Maaka, the child's father, “that if any of your children become ill in the future you must immediately get into touch with the district nurse. She is there for your assistance and you should take advantage of her services. It is a pity you were ill at the time your child became ill, for if you had got Jhe district nurse your child coi)jld have been saved.” After hearing medical evidence from Dr. A. G. Waddell, the coroner returned a verdict that the child died from pneumonia.
