LIQUOR ON BUS
FIRST CHARGE BROUGHT (By Telegraph.—Special to Times) AUCKLAND, Wednesday A charge of taking intoxicating liquor while a passenger on a motorbus, contrary to the Transport Law Amendment Act, 1939, was preferred against Walter Dale in the Magistrate's Court to-day, before Mr J. Morling, S.M. Mr C. D. Treadgold, for the Transport Department, said that as far as he knew this was the first charge of the kind brought under the Act. Defendant was a passenger on the Rotorua-Auckland bus on July 25. He had a bottle of whisky, which he persisted in offering to passengers. At various stages of the journey he got out for more drink, annoying the other passengers. Finally, the driver took the bottle from him, after which defendant continued to demand it back. Defendant, who did not appear, was lined 30s.
