TOPICS OF THE DAY

Wkat Freedom, Means “ The following thoughts have been inspired and partly compiled from the speeches and writings of a number of great men through the ages. I send them to you in case they may prove of some value at the present time,” writes Sir Herbert Morgan, in the Daily Telegraph (London). “ God gave us life and liberty at the same time. He gave us speech, the speech created thought, which is the measure of the universe. Freedom of speech and freedom of thought are part of man’s inalienable heritage. Without them there is no civilisation, no progress, no justice, no truth. Freedom of thought has given to the world its great literature. Freedom of thought has made it possible for arts and sciences lo flourish, and it is only in the atmosphere of freedom that genius can thrive. The greatest glory of free men is to transmit their freedom to (heir children, so that they, too, can live in die air of liberty and the light of truth. Now freedom, which is our chartered right, is in danger. But never yet was freedom overcome by force. Who would be free themselves must strike the blow. Let us, then, dedicate our energy, our courage and our very lives to freedom's cause, and let us to this end dare to do our duty as we understand it. Let man's unconquerable mind and freedom’s holy flame live for ever.”
