PICKING OF FLOWERS
DAFFODILS AT LAKE WOMAN CAUGHT IN ACT The indiscriminate picking of flowers on Donjain lands, particularly the picking of the daffodils under the trees at the Hamilton Lake, was the subject of discussion at a meeting of the Hamilton Domain Board last night. The foreman, Mr W. Darrall, reported having caught a woman picking daffodils shortly before 5 o’clock one afternoon and said that when approached she replied that she thought they were growing wild. Several members considered that
much of the picking of flowers was done by persons who did not think or who failed to see that it was an offence.
“The other day I saw two young women coming from towards the lake with two big armfuls of beautiful daffodils and I thought to myself then that they had been ‘robbing’ the bank,” commented Mr F. W Platts.
Mr J. R. Fow thought if people did not know that it was an offence to pick the flowers in the public parks and gardens it was time they did as the matter had been given sufficient publicity. “Some people, particularly women, just cannot keep their hands off.” commented the chairman, Mr F. A. Swarbrick.
After further discussion it was decided to write to the woman caught pointing out that it was an offence to pick flowers on Domain land.
