MARKET FOR BEEF / VALUES AT FRANKTON Despite a lighter entry of fat cattle at Frankton today the market showed no improvement, ox showing a further weakening. Cows and heifers were firm in many instances, but there were cases when slightly less money was paid. The ox beef market started brightly but interest soon lagged and prices were a shade lower. A larger penning of fat sheep commanded good attention and values over the early sales showed no noticeable difference from last week. In the fat pig section the most entries for some weeks were forward but, despite this, competition was keener and values were fully firm. Quotations —Heavy prime steers £l2 10s to £l3 15s. medium £ll 6d to £l2 ss, lighter £lO 4s to £11; extra heavy prime cows and heifers £9 10s to £ll 3s, heavy prime £8 to £9 ss, lighter prime £6 10s to £7 10s; fat and killable £4 15s to £5 17s 6d. Pigs—Baconers, 70s to 90s; porkers, 54s to 68s.
