The Hon. R. Semple, Minister of National Service, arrived in Hamilton this morning and will address a meeting of local body representatives from the district in the Borough Chambers tonight.

Mr H. P. Toose, of the stud stock department of Messrs Wright Stephenson and Company, Limited, Wellington, is in Hamilton.

Paymaster-Lieutenant R. S. P. Marrs, R.N., has been promoted to acting-Paymaster Lieutenant-Com-mander.

Mr C. G. C. Dernier, of Feilding, president of the New Zealand Jersey Cattle Breeders’ Association, is in Hamilton.

Messrs E. R. Matthews, W. A. Story, W. Hosking, F. Barker (Auckland), T. Stenstrom (Sydney) and H. J. Brownlee (Pukekohe) are at the Hamilton Hotel.

The Rev. D. S. Millar, formerly assistant-chaplain at King’s College, Auckland, and subsequently rector of Moora, Western Australia, has been appointed vicar of Queenstown.

Mr N. Archer was farewelled by members of Messrs Dalgety and Company’s Hawke’s Bay staff in Hastings on his departure to take up a position in Hamilton. He was made a presentation.

Mr V, Clouston, manager of the Regent Theatre, Gisborne, is to be transferred to Palmerston North as manager of the Regent Theatre there. Mr Clouston will be succeeded by Mr H. Darby, of Te Aroha.

Major C. N. Newton, N.Z.S.C., district artillery officer, Auckland, inspected the Vth Medium Battery, New Zealand Artillery, at Claudelands yesterday and today. He later returned to Auckland.

Mr H. Hawke, who has been postmaster at Waipawa for three and ahalf years, has received notice of his transfer on promotion to Cambridge, and will leave Waipawa toward the end of the month to take up his new duties. During his sojourn in Waipawa Mr Hawke has greatly interested himself in the activities of the town, being prominently associated with the Waipawa and District Returned Soldiers’ Association, the Chamber of Commerce and several other bodies, as well as taking a keen interest in the affairs of the Waipawa Bowling Club and the Waipawa Golf Club.
