PUNISHMENT DEMANDED
CAROL’S ARREST RUMOURED CROWD CHEERS NEW KING REQUEST TO QUEEN HELEN (United Press Assn. —Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received Sept. 7, 12.30 p.m.) BUCHAREST, Sept. 6 Reports that ex-King Carol has been arrested are not confirmed, but coincide with reports that the Iron Guard is demanding that the exKing should be punished for the deaths of members of the Iron Guard. The secret police arrested two of ex-King Carol’s closest friends, M. Victoria Amandi and M. Nicolao Malaxa.
General Antonescu is reported to have ordered the arrest of the exKing’s Lord Chamberlain, Ernst Urdeanu.
King Michael, who took the oath before the microphone, later appeared at a window of the Palace, in response to the cheers of the crowd, who broke out into patriotic songs. Government circles state that dozens of arrests include M. Tatarescu.
It is learned that Queen Helen went to Dresden from Florence, resulting in General Antonescu telegraphing and urging her to take her place beside her son.
