Copyrlg-ht) (Received Sept. 7, 11 a.m.) BUCHAREST, Sept. 6 i General Antonescu left the Royal Palace at 3 a.m. and conferred with the army officers. Meantime steel-helmeted soldiers replaced gendarmes and guarded the Palace, where the abdication occurred later in the presence of General ; Antonescu, who, in a communique, issued an appeal to the nation to “forget the past and work round the beloved young King.” j Ex-King Carol, in a proclamai tion, said:— “I have decided to abdicate in the face of the misfortunes which have befallen the country. I hope by this sacrifice to save my country. I give a dear son to the country and hope it will j surround him with love and j fidelity, so that he can execute j the serious tasks which are i placed on his young shoulders.”
