GENEROUS RESPONSE
PLUNKET SOCIETY APPEAL OVER £9O COLLECTED A generous response was received to the Hamilton Plunket Society’s appeal in Victoria Street yesterday. The total proceeds from the stall in front of the library and from the sale of buttonholes by ex-pupils of the Diocesan School for Girls were £9O 8s sd. The corresponding receipts last year amounted to about £BO. OS yesterday’s collection £52 8s was from the sale of buttonholes, this showing an appreciable rise on last year, when the buttonholes realised about £45.
“In spite of the varied calls on the public pocket in recent months, the people of Hamilton responded very generously to the society’s appeal.” said the president of the society, Mrs N. E. Blomfield, today. “The work of the society is continually growing in importance, and yesterday’s collection shows that the public realises this and appreciates what is being done for mothers and children. On its part, the society wishes to express appreciation for the help that has been received from the public and from those who assisted with the appeal.”
The Frankton sub-branch of the society conducted a stall in Commerce Street, yesterday, when £l2 was realised.
