BOOM IN MUSICALS
•‘NO. NO, NANETTE” REVIVAL OF OPERA The success of “Irene” has started a new boom in musicals—or, rather, i*: revivals of the great musical comedy successes of nights gone by. Anna Neagle will follow up *‘lrene” with “No. No. Nanette” and “Sunny.” And when Judy Garland completes “Strike Up the Band” with Mickey Rooncv she will do “Little Nelly Kelly,” a big stage hit of a few years ago. It will be Judy’s first official solo starring picture and in addition to the title role she will play Nelly’s mother. As leading men Anna Neagle will have Jeffry Lynn in “Sunny” and Denis Morgan in “No, No, Nanette.” It is said that £50,000 was paid for the film rights of these two musical comedies. Noel Coward’s “Bitter Sweet” is also to be re-made, with Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy heading the cast. There are also signs of a revival of opera on the screen.
