HIGHER VALUE
EXPORTS IN JULY INCREASE OF £1,472,000 IMPORTS DECLINE BY £401,000 (By Telegraph.—Special to Time©) WELLINGTON, Friday The value of exports for July is £1,472,000 more than for the same month last year, according to figures released by the Customs Department today. The total for the month was £5,029,000, against £3,557,000 in July last year, and £3,783,000 in 1938. Imports, at £4,061,000, were £401,000 lower in value than last year, and £550,000 below the level in July, 1938. An excess of exports, valued at £968,000, compares with the £905,000 excess of imports registered for the month last year, £828,000 in 1938, and £19,000 in 1937. The reverse of the previous tendency is due more to higher exports than to the fall in import value. For the first seven months of the calendar year exports were £9,322,000 higher than for the corresponding period last year. Imports m the same period decreased by £3,(19,000. The favourable commodity balance of £20,731.000 is the highest in the past seven years.
