ORDER NOT OBEYED
TROUBLE ON BOARD SHIP TWO SEAMEN FINED £5 (By Telegraph.—Press Association) AUCKLAND, Friday Two seamen in an overseas ship, John Dale, aged 26, and William Dwyer, aged 21, pleaded guilty in the Police Court to a charge that while on the high seas between Bluff and Wellington they wilfully disobeyed a lawful command. The prosecution said that both men were late coming aboard before the ship sailed from Bluff at about midnight. When the mate ord% ed the crew, who were off watch, to finish clearing up the ship they refused to turn out. Dale told the officer that if he did not clear out he would “beat him out.” Counsel for the defence, Mr Holmden, said the men were dog tired through long hours of work. Both had good characters. The magistrate, Mr F. H. Levien, said this appeared to be the first case of its kind since the war. He fined each man £5.
