EXTRA CHEESE
FACTORY’S EXPERIENCE FARMERS SHOW OPPOSITION (By Telegraph.—Special to Times) . WOODVILLE, Thursday “I regret to state that we found considerable opposition to our efforts, made in good faith, to secure more milk,” said the chairman of directors of the Hopelands Co-operative Dairy Company, Mr W. J. Miller, at the annual meeting of shareholders. In some cases, said Mr Miller, district farmers showed no interest, in others no desire to assist, and in not a few real opposition was shown and insults offered. “These are the facts, I much regret to state, and they should receive publicity in the national interests,” Mr Miller said. “I wish to stress the fact that we as directors were not wishful of securing this maximum supply. We were satisfied to run our business prosperously and happily and quietly, but there is with us the greatest war in history, and we are asked to assist the Empire to win it. Hence we did as we were told to do, and in doing it we did not deserve the kicks and cuffs which we received, and resented.
“That is all I wish to say about the drive for cheese,” said Mr Miller in conclusion. “We are satisfied to leave it there in the expectation that those who are out to help will send their milk to us, while those who desire to hinder, either from selfishness or worse, can carry on as if the war were no concern of theirs.”
