ARAWA PARK

USE FOR TERRITORIALS POSSIBLY IN OCTOBER RACE MEETING AT CAMBRIDGE? (By Telegraph.—Special to Times) ROTORUA, Wednesday A large military camp to accommodate between 600 and 700 men may have to be established at Arawa Park, Rotorua, during October, for all artillery sections of northern command territorial forces, according to advice received by the Rotorua Racing Club. As a result it will be necessary to make arrangements to hold the one-day totalisator meeting scheduled for Saturday, October 19, for the Rotorua and Bay of Plenty Hunt Club, away from Rotorua, possibly at Cambridge. Although the Racing Club has just completed extensive improvements to the course, the necessity of meeting the wishes of the military authorities is realised. WORK OF HIGH STANDARD TERRITORIALS AND RESERVE (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Wednesday “In the event of these men ever being called upon to play their war role in the defence of New Zealand, I am certain that they will render an excellent account of themselves; they are soldiers of whom the country can well be proud,” said Major-General Sir John Duigan, K.8.E., C. 8., D. 5.0., Chief of the General Staff, following his recent inspection of the Territorial and National Reserve (Class II.) units training in the northern and central military districts. Most of the units, he said, were well forward with their training and a number of them were now entering on a phase of intensive military work during which they would carry out tactical exercises. The bearing and general turnout of the units he inspected during his North Island tour were of a very high standard.
