MR WHITNEY PLEASED
AMERICANS IN AUSTRALIA GOODWILL AND CO-OPERATION (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) SYDNEY, Sept. 4 The news of the transfer of 50 American destroyers to Britain was received with great satisfaction by the party of Americans who arrived from New Zealand by today’s flyingboat. Mr Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitney, who was spokesman for the party, declared the Administration’s action would be very popular with Americans. The party was welcomed by the Federal Treasurer, Mr P. C. Spender, and State Ministers. Mr Spender assured the visitors they had come to a country determined to defend itself against aggression and at the same time give the Mother Country the maximum assistance. Australia was also deeply appreciative of the goodwill of the United States and the ever-increasing evidence of America's co-operation in regard to problems in the Pacific.
