WEDDINGS
OLSON—GARRETT WHITE SATIN GOWN The Methodist Church, Te AwamutU; was the scene of a charming wedaing on Saturday, August 24, when Mavis, third daughter of Mr and Mrs C. Garrett, New Plymouth, was married to Frank, only son of Mr and Mrs T. N. Olson, of Te Rahu. The Rev. H. Spencer was the officiating minister, and Mrs J. R. Cullen presided at the organ. The bride, who v»as given away by her father, wore a lovely gown of white satin cut on slim-fitting lines and designed with a Medici collar of lace and a long train, falling from the waistline, trimmed with orange blossom. Her flowing veil was caught to the head by a coronet of orange blossom and she carried a bouquet of white cyclamen, hyacinths and stock. The Bridesmaid In attendance on the bride, as bridesmaid, was Miss Fay Hebden, who was wearing a frock of green embossed taffeta trimmed with tiny velvet bows from the neckline to the waist. Her bouquet was of cream primroses and maidenhair fern. Mr A. Fear, of Pirongia, carried out the duties of best man. After the ceremony, a reception was held at the Regent Tearooms, where the mother of the bride received her guests in a periwinkle blue frock, a navy coat and a navy hat. Assisting her was Miss Gladys Olson, sister of the bridegroom, who wore a brown suit, with a matching hat. When Mr and Mrs F. Olson left on their honeymoon, the bride travelled in a rust frock and hat and navy accessories. . They will make their home at Te Rahu. HAINES—McLEAN LACE OVER SATIN The wedding was solemnised at St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Te Kuiti, on the evening of Saturday, August 31, when Evelyn Madge Sutherland, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs P. J. McLean, of Te Mapara, was married to Aubrey Henry William, only son of Mr and Mrs W. J. Haines, of Te Kuiti. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. E. W. Hancock and Mr Dent was the organist. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a beautiful gown of white lace over satin, cut on slimfitting lines. The long train and the bodice were appliqued in white velvet water lilies and narrow bands of white velvet trimmed the waistline, which was finished at the front with two small bows. Her embroidered tulle veil fell from a coronet of orange blossom and she carried a sheaf of arum lilies, freesias and cyclamen. Three Attendants In attendance on the bride were her sister, Miss Joyce McLean, and Miss Wynne and, Keitha Haines, sisters of the bride. They were in similar frocks of apple green net over taffeta, fashioned with full skirts appliqued in pink taffeta and trimmed with bands of green satin ribbon. The bodices were also adorned with applique. On their heads they wore green circular veils held in place by pink flowers, and they carried muffs of green net finished with sprays of pink flowers.
The best man was Mr P. McLean, brother of the bride, and the groomsmen were Messrs C. Cameron and D. Tapp. Messrs Laurenson and McCaughley were the ushers at the church.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Parish Hall, which was charmingly decorated with spring flowers. Mrs McLean received the guests in an ensemble of hyacinth crepe worn with a navy hat. Her posy was of violets and maidenhair fern. The mother of the bridegroom was in a navy and white ensemble, and a navy hat and she carried a posy of primroses and cyclamen. When Mr and Mrs A. H. W. Haines
left by car for the wedding trip, the bride wore a smart navy pin-striped suit, a navy hat and furs. They will make their home at Te Kuiti.
